WhatThe Trains at NorthPark, presented by American Clean Skies Foundation, will open this Saturday, November 22, with a Sneak Peek for invited guests from 8-10 a.m. with carnival activities and a whistle blowing dedication. It opens to the public at 10 a.m.
At 8:30 a.m., Coleton*, 16-year-old kid conductor, who battled cancer and stayed at the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, will blow the whistle to open the trains to the public. The Honorary Family is the Nancy Nasher and David Haemisegger family. Trains Chairs are Nancy Kerr and Natalie Dossett.
The train exhibit is the most elaborate toy train attraction in all of Texas, with vintage locomotives whizzing on a journey across America, past miniature national landmarks including Mount Rushmore, Dallas’ skyline, New York City’s Times Square and Washington, D.C. There are more than 36 Lionel-type O-Gauge and the larger G-Gauge locomotives chug simultaneously on 2,500 feet of winding track. Proceeds from The Trains at NorthPark provide almost a third of the $1.3 million operating budget for the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas.
*Coleton represents a success for those whose children are battling cancer. He and his family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House while he went through 11 months of chemotherapy and 5 ½ weeks of radiation. They brought joy and hope to everyone, especially the other families. He’s now cancer free.
